Electronic Copyediting: A Three-Hour Workshop
I no longer teach this workshop. Copyediting has changed significantly because of software developments. In the past, all manuscripts were copyedited by hand; that is, with paper and pencil. Copyeditors used standard symbols to represent how they thought the manuscript should be changed. Now, most copyeditors work electronically and do not use copyediting symbols at all. My workshops were designed to take these changes into account by aiding traditional copyeditors in moving to electronic copyediting. This workshop was also for editors who need to work with copyeditors. It addressed editing manuscripts electronically in Microsoft Word, including using the Track Changes option, coding with the Word style sheet, making Comments, and performing global changes efficiently. If you had not yet switched from hand editing to electronic editing, this workshop was useful. Certainly, Microsoft Word can be a powerful copyediting tool if you know how to use it effectively. I no longer copyedit myself nor do I answer email queries about copyediting.
